Thanksgiving Blessings

Thanksgiving Blessings

Living in the presence of the eternal’s bounty
A grace note in soaring gratitude
Never slipping through the fingers of the heart
Like escaping bits of sand
The patois of blessing heard through horns of plenty
Adorned by chrysanthemum, asters and bittersweet
Like a holiday bonnet worn
In scents of sweet communion spice of familiar voices,
And warm fires of those that still echo in arias of grace
At a table place saved in memory,
A celebration of nourishing transformations –
Solstice to equinox
Summer seeds planted in anticipation yield
Wheat to bread – bread to savory pudding –
Apples to cider, grapes to wine or raisins
    Sun splashed berries to preserves
Spent leaves to life giving loams
Barren laughter now blessed
In soils of tender benediction,
Scattered beauty’s aura of twirling abundance,
 Scarlet, orange and ochre,
In cozy harvest spirit flames
Transforms the simple ordinary into a banquet
Anointed by familial grace and history
Like grape vines eternally entwined in grateful,
  Ever baptized by harvest mists
Wearing new silver veils of nourishing rain,
To bless the winding road home.

Belle, thank you many times over for your lovely message. Every night, no matter what the day has brought, I try to give thanks for at least one thing even if it is sun peeking through the clouds. The kids call it an attitude of gratitude. Heidi Sands keeps a gratitude jar writing on a slip of paper something she is grateful for each day. On January 1st she goes back and reads all of them. I really like that idea. We do have much to be be grateful for every day of the year. I often find rhyme difficult. However, writing lyrics has helped! Sending you a bounty of blessings for Thanksgiving!

This overflows with autumn abundance, very clever to show 'wheat to bread' and 'apples to cider' - that last line so uplifting too!

Hi Michelle, thank you so much for your uplifting message! :D I'm so glad you liked those lines for it seemed to me that autumn, with all of its beauty, is a symbol of continual transformation not only for nature but for us. So grateful for your lovely note! Sending you all the blessings of the season!
