They are respectively "thank you" and "you're welcome". The words are phonetically spelled since Russian uses a different alphabet. You don't have anything to fear from the average Russian citizen. They are about the same as you and I.

I'll remember spassiba - my son works in an all-Russian company and is catching onto their language really well being the only non-Russian there :)
