Terminal

I linger long after you've gone and watch the coming of the dawn, with crusted eyes from little sleep, a cross to bear, a wound too deep for me to cauterize or stitch, an all-consuming, scratchless itch that aggravates me to the core and cruelly whispers nevermore. A locket in my pocket and a tear-stained kerchief in my hand, emblems of a stillborn romance, listlessly I change my stance and wander mindlessly, my eyes fixed firmly on the ground, the skies are cold, the wind is gray, I never will forgive this day.

Keith, I agree with Donna's remarks. I hope you have stopped the "all-consuming, scratchless itch." Well done, my friend. Carolyn

Wow, this is so dramatic and piercing. This is very well written, for I can feel each emotion thtat you describe. "A locket in my pocket and a tear-stained kerchief in my hand, emblems of a stillborn romance," Fantastic! Blessings, Donna G.

I love your rhythm. I think the rhythm of this poem is what makes it so soothing as you read it. You get drawn in and your mind quiets and all you see are the words and the iambic flow. The way I read it, your rhythm drew me in so deep that I forgot the subject, then the last line snapped me out of it and I reread to grasp what you're actually saying. So there you go...the best poems invite the reader to keep reading long after the poem's over. That's my two cents anyway.

Keith, this is so sad. The rhyme and flow are perfect, the imagery and emotion woven so beautifully through it. A heartfelt, very touching write. Love, Robin
