Tears With Vince

Gone
Like I meant nothing
two years of nothing
unsurprising really
I always knew I loved more

Heart breaking
I keep it together
allowing only private tears
so family and friends
remain unconcerned

They never knew
exactly how much
I loved you
We loved our way
away from them

Another break
we’d had several
and always fixed it
but not this time
this time you left

Outwardly I smiled
went places with friends
Danced, sang
but inside I crumbled
My joy was gone

Living on hold
loving long distance
waiting for the call
a connection to prove
I was not forgotten

Friends assumed
I was good
ready to move on
They never knew
Until Vince sang his song

Right there
in front of them
welling in silently
as the dam cracked
and then flooded

Love and Loneliness
flowed from cracks
and proved the song true
“I never knew lonely
‘til you”

Song: I Never Knew Lonely by Vince Gill
Heartbreak circa 1992

A well written engrossing poem filled with sadness, dealing with questions of lost love, and a whirl wind of emotions. The pain of love lost to time burns in the heart and consumes the soul. Emile #7

Favorite lines among many: 'as the dam cracked and then flooded'...Yes indeed Janet, many (including me) can identify with that. My favorite song by Vince is 'When I Call Your Name' with Patty Loveless. Thank you for this - Tim

The hardest part is pretending that nothing is wrong...putting on the game face in front of friends and family....I went through the same thing. glad you made it out Jan

Me too Tim. I think it makes us appreciate the love we find more.

I can relate to this big style Janet - saving face in front of family and friends yet dying inside - just a single song made memories flood back and the tears flow - great write:-) Hugs Jan xx

Best to let the emotions flow Janet - with things like this we never know when it will hit us:-( I realised from the poem that the singer was Vince :-) Hugs Jan xx

I probably should have added a note to this...as to the song explanation..since Vince in the artists Vince Gill...not the guy's name..LOL It was a rather spectacular moment, I stunned my best friend's fiance wordless..I'm sure there was a very awkward silence after I left the room but could not bring myself to care.....One should never apologize for loving.
