Tears of a Clown

disguised tears of a clown
smile turned to wretched frown
behind makeup his eyes glazed over
at the sight of daisies and smell of clover
in summer fields he last saw his love
flew off to heaven she gentle dove
his heart in pieces shattered
remembering the only thing that mattered
now sunless days on automatic pilot
skies from greys to blues to violet
feigning composure while on edge
he dances nonchalantly on a ledge
concealed tears the people miss
a clown one step away from the abyss

Sometimes clowns are the sadest people, using laughter to hide their tears. Your poem is a good example of this and a great entry for the contest.

Great entry for the contest, methinks. You've created a clown whose pain the reader feels. Super! :) Gershon
