Taste of Words
Squeeze yourself into
The empty space that lies
Between here and there.
Now and then, we and they,
In the breath between
Skin and bone, heart and blood
Mind and soul,
In the sliver of light
Between bark and tree,
Hide and hair,
And black and blacker.
Slip through the cracks
Into the mystic otherworld
Where thoughts and ideas,
Unfettered by time and place,
Climb into gnarly word trees
And drop plump, ripe phrases
Into waiting hands and laps.
Tongue-tingling words fall
From the branches and
Roll in the grass
Like apples and oranges,
While pomegranate phrases
Are yours for the tasting
