Notes About The Poem

Take Wing, My Heart

Fervid thoughts fill my heart as I sleep.
It overflows with emotions tonight
for a secret love I've kept fathoms deep,
avowed only in the Sonnets I write.

In poetry we share the flames of desire
and his arms tremble with the need of me.
Passion kindled 'til there's a blazing fire.
My whispers are sighs in an urgent plea.

I've pages of rhymes about love's yearning,
and dancing with him 'neath a pale gold moon.
I imagine his touch leaves me burning
to free my love from its confined cocoon.

Take wing, my heart and fly without delay
The secret long kept; I must now convey.

Lin, I find this to be an erotic piece, which means you've done something good in my way of thinking. You make longing for affection and dreaming of love into something beautiful and relatable. It is a reflection of what we feel as human beings--done with elegant simplicity.

How very kind and insightful are your thoughts on my writing of this one, Duke. Thanks ever so much.

Lovely sonnet, Lin. Like Tom, I’m not to comfortable with sonnets though I have a go now and again. Tom’s comment suggests you’ve been unwell… hope you’re all mended. Terry

Oozing with passion and romance, beautiful sonnet Lin, best of luck in the contest. I don't find this form easy to be honest. Hope you are on the mend. Tom

I’m doing much better, Tom. Thanks for asking. Don’t be afraid of writing a Sonnet, it’s just a rhyming poem.
