Take This War
There’s a theatre hall in Mariupol,
Where women and children had fled
But the Russians bomb without conscience
A number unknown, now are dead
As the corpses were pulled from the rubble
The earth was awash with our tears.
Aye, aye, aye, aye
Take this war, take this war,
Take this war put a clamp on its jaws.
On the outskirts of Kiev, a tank’s burning
Soldier’s lives from both sides are lost
Dark dreams of a malevolent madman
pursued regardless of cost.
While safe far away, the oligarchs play
And grumble at loss of their yachts.
Aye, aye, aye, aye
Save this tree where doves go to die
Ukraine won’t forget you, you know.
Verses I've adapted from Saint Leonard's "Take this Waltz" which was adapted from Lorca's poem, "Pequeño vals vienés" (Little Viennese Waltz).
