Swords

Words in the wind We can never rescind Words of delight Or dark words of plight Words lift a heart Or can rip one apart Though years pass between Words kind or quite mean A capacity Echo's joy / misery Comforting thoughts, of kind words I've spoken Joys peace they brought; friendships sweet token Were those words of life and joy that were uttered. But sometimes unkind and in anger, words sputtered I remember them yet Those words of regret Cupid's sweet arrows or quick flashing swords Straight to a heart, the use of our words Apologies are a soothing kind balm, To mend a friend, and help lend some calm Sometimes this? Impossible. Other times? Implausible. Words in the wind We can never rescind. Of unkind words I've ever spent I lift to God, and I repent. Again, again, again, again Praying God He heals the stain From wounds of hurt, or hearts I've stung By unkind words from off my tongue 11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. ~ Proverbs 25:11-26 ~ KJV For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. ~James 3:7-8 ~ KJV

Thank you, Kim :) Kindness is not usually regretted, lashings of unkind words can be regretted for a lifetime. I wonder, do they bother the receptor as much as the one who regrets their own outburst? Sticks and stones and all that jazz, but, words can wound a heart. Once they've flown forth, there is no taking them back. Horrible. My youthful temper outbursts still bother me, even though it didn't happen often, yikes. :( Not like I don't still regret words from time to time. Who can tame the tongue? God help us to be kind...and bless the ones affected by an unexpected outburst of flaming sWords! Sadder, is when we can't even say "I'm sorry..." for the impossible or implausible, especially in the passing of time. Best say I'm sorry in a timely fashion at least! God help us keep those flaming swords cooled in the Living Water of peace and love!

It is always a pity that we are aware of the hurt inflicted by wanton gossip. Great poem.

Gossip is certainly a slayer. Hopefully a person has the decency to at least say what is on their mind in a direct way rather than slander behind other's backs. Words are powerful. Sometimes we just don't realize how hurtful they can be until that sword lashes out. Words can sting a soul forever, but the wielder of the sword can never take those words back.

Beautiful well written poem. I was reminded of A Fool’s Prayer by Edward R. Sill. The quote from James was spot on. John

Thank you, John, I will have to look that poem up. Words are powerful, and can be beautiful, but sometimes, so destructive. The Bible says we'll be held accountable for each one spoken, so, it is a good thing to contemplate. :)

Great theme. I love how you put swords with words in the middle of it to emphasize words' influence on people

Isn't it amazing how that works out? Words can be swords, so powerful, and such a small part of us. The Bible warns us, and sometimes we don't understand till we grow up (I was sassy as a teen, I feel rotten about it now), and even now as a grown-up, a flash of anger and flashes of that sword, and again,,, Lord, help me to just always just be kind. As I grow older I am more patient, but as a teen, not so much sometimes.
