Sweetheart Don'T Dream

Listen my dove, to the lulling music
of Gounod’s Ave Maria.
Hear the soft brushing of the bow
against the perfectly tuned violin strings,
vibrating tenderly and lovingly.

So hearken, my little dove
but don’t dare to dream.
For dreams are all illusions
Never meant to be.

Avoid futility, for dreams
are part of our innermost desires
that is, alas, beyond our means.
In this ugly sick world of ours,
real love should reign supreme,
with such a weapon only
we can conquer the arrows
that outrageous fortune throws at us.

Be strong, look forward to life,
even if it is somehow short.
And though it may seem rather slow.
There is always a silver-lined cloud
that glitters after a timely shower.
Aim for it until the day
when you develop wonderful wings
to fly to heavenly everlasting dreams,
Where you’ll hear Gounod’s music again.

Ahh!! We can dream as long as we don't get so caught up in them that we forget reality. We never know when a day might come that our dreams can be fulfilled. I enjoyed reading this one today. Thanks for sharing and for dropping by my page. Sara

Love has been since Adam and Eve and will forever be, true love is rare, and it encompasses so many roles between a loving couple. We become good friends, each others mother and father (as we grow older) each others brother or sister, and sadly orphaned, so we look after each other until the one or other takes a permanent trip, and then hope our trip will follow its timely course. Your poem is so true of life Victor. hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

I also read that Charles-François Gounod wrote Romeo & Juliet. You are the romantic, Victor!
