* This is my cat, Sugar, the sweetest spirit I've ever known *

Oh, mine, the coldest heart to thaw With but one touch, your little paw A tiny heart to love me through The worst and best of what I do You care not how I strive or live Still pure, is ALL the love you give My hopes were nearly gone the day Your sweetened smile came to stay Yet one gaze in your sparkled eyes Turned all my gloom to sunny skies How could I know your fuzzy ploy - To flood my house and heart with joy Your gentle spirit taught me care I need its shine like lungs need air And if this world e'er finds you gone I've not such strength to carry on For should you find the need to leave How deep my weary soul will grieve Of all life's blessings, tried and true There's none that I've loved more ... than YOU. ~ 1st Place ~ in the "Write A Rhyme About Your Favorite Pet, Living Or Not" Poetry Contest, Regina Riddle, Judge & Sponsor. * My poem is about one of my cats, Sugar, who has the sweetest spirit I've ever known ... she literally saved my life. *

oh silly me. I see at the very top that you write about her in the present tense. Lucky you, Greg. My sweet black cat died this year. I had one like Sugar years ago. Her name was Callie Cat.

Oh, I remember that, Andrea, and I'm so, so sorry ... I had an all-black cat right before I had these two ... he was a stray who adopted me, and he also saved my life, (as Sugar has). He was a BIG boy, and while he wasn't affectionate, he followed me EVERYwhere ... he showed up on Halloween night, and was starving and near death. I wasn't sure I'd go on when he left, then Sugar came by way of a rescue with her half-sister, Princess. I am so thankful for them. Blessings, Buddy! :o) <3

The best of the best - kitty and poem! Both tug at my heart. Our pets are so much more than companions; they are unconditional love and you described that purrfectly in your wonderful poem. Congrats on a well written poem.
