Sweet Nightingale
You come thoughtfully to me at nightfall,
Offer a precious gift of calm repose
Donning your customary velvet shawl,
Peeking through the windowpane, I suppose
Watching me dress in warm flannel night clothes.
Chirp softly to let me know you are near,
Reassuring me, you calm every fear
At eventide. You visit without fail
To help me prepare for night, that is clear,
My faithful sweet, sweet purple nightingale.
