Sweet Dark Kiss
'Tis told by those wiser than me
In crisis, freak feelings some see
When scent of death is all around
One's primal pulse does start to pound
Songs sing of outrageous empathy
Crossing all history's epic sea
Death's husky breath whisks one's skin
Like siren calls, invites one in
Lures the wandering and unsure
Whispers through the night endure
Soft, moist lips touch the idle soul
Lean close in and taste blackest coal
Darkness reigns on the killing field
Minds bend to think that they must yield
The loss of light we all lament
Greatness gone and good deeds misspent
Innocents hurt, self-inflicted
Hope grows as the dirge is lifted
Some seek to kiss eternity
See kernels of humanity
Yet many choose to take to flight
Flee from ever-revolving light
Serenely let one freely fly
To thrive anew beyond the sky
Be aware that time knows no tide
As dark draws in, set it aside
What trait makes night prosper in us
Death's embrace we fear to discuss
Will life's sweetest kiss be for all
A dark abyss in which we fall
