Susannah Wesley’s Apron No pilgrimage to Israel; No cloistered cell; No holy retreat. Not with ten tumbling children rumbling through the house. Despite the chaos and noise, the never-ending grind of making ends meet, the demands of Motherhood. She made time to talk with God. Under her own ‘Temple of Meeting’ fashioned from her simple apron draped over her head, she prayed. In that holy place, like Moses in the desert, She met with God.

Though not as famous as her sons, she was an exemplary mother and prayer warrior. John said of his mother, "I have learned more of Christianity from my mother than all the theologians in England". My favorite quote of hers is, "Help me, Lord, to remember that religion is not to be confined to the church... nor exercised only in prayer and meditation, but that every where I am in Thy Presence." You have written well of her, and I'm so glad to have read this today, Rena. Thank you ~ John

Thank you.Glad it gave joy to your soul. just shows that one must not under-estimate the power of prayer and the planting of seeds! God is in the small as well as the infinite.

Rena, in my neighborhood in Chicago, there are dozens of mothers with 8 - 12 children, who somehow find a way to their 'tent' to pray to G-d during their incredibly busy, pressure-packed days. Susannah Wesley is not alone! Your poem is a marvelous tribute to all these women. Truly enjoyed this uplifting write. Blessing and Bounty, Gershon

Thank you.you are right! It is a praise that these women also choose time with God before ‘me time’ which they also need, but shows their unselfishness and priorities in a rather ‘me’ world
