Sometimes our gardens have hidden, "forgotten," surprises! I found a little tomato plant near our old compost heap site. We transplanted it and it is now three feet high and still giving us tomatoes even in the winter! Nature is miraculous. Congratulations on your winning haiku. Happy New Year!!

Thanks, Sam. I have the same experience. My Grannies' Bonnets seed themselves every year and come up in whatever design. There's a layer of bulbs under it all. The result is a bit wild but I like it that way! Hooray for surprises! Elizabeth

Exactly, Ann! On second thought, I think that sometimes I have been the dahlias. Elizabeth

That is so sweet, Elizabeth. Those poor dahlias, though. :) A lovely Haiku. Congratulations!

Thank you, Andrea Your comments are especially valued. As you see, sometimes I can write a three liner. Elizabeth

Susan, thank you the kind comment! This actually happened to me and it gave me such a laugh (the way of best laid plans!) that it cried out for sharing. Elizabeth

I am truly grateful for your time reading some of my poems. Most of those here were written for contests; I hit a writing wall a couple years ago and haven't written anything truly mine in a long time. So I look at contests for ideas just to keep my brain working. It's not the same, but at least it's writing something :)

Thank you, FJ. Your comment brought your work to my attention. I'm so impressed by your range of form, but also you have written my total life! Now facing the ashes to ashes. Elizabeth.
