Notes About The Poem

Premiere Contest WinnerSunset Constanza

Dedicated, a second time, to our beloved Connie.

At twilight, prismed skies unfold
Painting Earth in roseate light
Pastel hues brushed on clouds in flight

Pink threads woven with rays of gold
Marmalade fingers fade to peach
Sinking low, out of human reach

A sanguine sun nears dusk's threshold
Waves ripple with his last shimmer
Dazzling beams of sunset glimmer

'tween sea and sky, since ages old
He sleeps 'til each new day is born
And flowers sip the dew of morn

Earth is veiled by night and grows cold
Moon of pearl glows and stars glisten
Nightingales sweetly sing ~ listen

At twilight, prismed skies unfold
Pink threads woven with rays of gold
A sanguine sun nears dusk's threshold
'tween sea and sky, since ages old
Earth is veiled by night and grows cold

So lovely Lin! Congratulations on your win! So many elements of sunset are woven into this poem through texture and color that is as vibrant, yet soft, as the waning light at sunset. Blessings to you!

Lin, you posted this poem back in 2017 and dedicated it to Connie and her Constanza form. What an appropriate tribute it is now to our memory of Connie. Congratulations on your first-place finish on Mile 14 of my 2022 Poetry Marathon Contest. We're over halfway to the finish line! Keep your running shoes on, because Mile 15 has already started.

Connie and I became great friends not long after I joined PS in 2015. She was a very special lady in so many ways, and I will miss her terribly. Thank you for honoring my entry, and in so doing, honoring Connie.

Lin, I was researching the Constanza form and came this this poem; sometimes your writing just blows me away, you are so talented my friend. And yes, this is another one of my "honeysuckle" comments. :) John

John, sweet is the scent of honeysuckle, but not as fragrant as your words are to me about my writing. Your compliments are delightful to read and I thank you, most humbly. I hope you write a Constanza. I'd love to read it.

Beautiful imagery Lin, I love the form, it forces you to say things succinctly, but even the short phrases you used are very powerful in their imagery.

Many thanks for your gracious words, Paul. I think her form is wonderful. She's framed this one and it hangs in their library. That's quite a gift to me.

OMG Lin, what a special gift you have honored me with! You couldn't have written a more beautiful Constanza. I am going to print it out and frame it to put on my wall! You have written about my favorite time of day...twilight. I dearly love this poem Lin. It is a lovely example of your talent as a poet. A mere thank you seems insufficient my friend. Need I say, this is going into my Faves! Love, Connie : )

You're so very welcome, Connie. I know the sunsets you see are beyond beautiful and I remember you telling me that's it's your favorite time of day. I'm gratified that you like it and thrilled that you want to frame it. That's an honor that I treasure.

This is soooo beautiful Lin! I just love this form, and haven't thought about it for a long time! I used it back in 2012 when it was a pretty new form and people wanted this form for their contests, but haven't used it since then, mainly due to the fact that I have forgotten about it...not because I didn't like it, because I love this form, but just because I have lost it within my mind...and it's not on the Poetry Soup forms! I don't know why? What a grand example of the form! Great Work!!
