Summertime

Summertime August, Dog Days, natures speed bump quieting the hum of impatience laying humidity’s blanket atop the weary landscape. Leaves droop, listless vagrants ambition wilting in the heat. Flowers shield their eyes begging for a merciful cloud. Old Man River creeps further from his banks, withdrawing more each day. Blue Heron watch. Hot stones discourage basking turtles mirages dance on asphalt lies children shrink into the shadows darkness beckoning night air. 7/2/2016 submitted to – SUMMERTIME – Poetry contest sponsor – Janis Thompson.

Thanks for the high mark Janice. As they say..."it ain't the heat - it's the humidity."

So, summer is or isn't your favorite season? Your creative write took my mind to 'heat', I guess my summer feel doesn't incorporate my heat feel! Your imagery is amazing and captivated me. Many are going to echo your sentiments if I've been a good comment noticer. Again, I love the creativity in this write ... CayCay

CayCay, growing up in the city close to Boston's Emerald Necklace afforded us city kids the opportunity to wander the woods with our dogs and discover nature on her terms.
