Autumn's a harbinger of Summer's death,
associated with mold and decay.
And the stench of rot fouls my every breath;
as Autumn strips Summer's sweet scent away.
Crucified scarecrows droop, nailed to their posts,
gaunt reminders that Winter approaches.
And although Jack-o'-lanterns ward off ghosts,
discarded pumpkins attract cockroaches.
Autumn's pageantry conceals its function,
peeking from under the Grim Reaper's cowl.
For destroying life without compunction,
this beguiling henchman is on the prowl.
There's a malignancy that shadows Fall,
like a cancerous tumor, killing all.
