Summer Shower

In the heated performance of the day,
 summer wet evenings close the
   curtains, concluding with a thunder
jest and a gift of wipe. The crawling
claws of the ceaseless winds surrender
it pretends to the warmth of the sun's
           embrace.

After a cheer with the scorching
           temperatures and blazing burns
she wears her coat like an
           uninvited guests tapping the
           windows and rooftops
           with her tiny fingers,
           flapping in no unique direction
she lets go of her charades,
undressing, as her wet skin takes a
           shower, curling so beautifully in
diverse shades she murmurs to the
           clouds on when to smile.

                     The skies frown
                     blindly, not even the
                  rays demur her request
to hailstorm the earth alongside her
hums and banters. She builds her intensity
in a rhythmic drum of forceful tranquillity.

She evokes memories of childhood and a sneaky link to the past. I watch the trees outside my house twirl without rhyme at her call. She sings to my ears and I crave every tune while we sip our lemonade and run for cover and dance in leisure as she pours swiftly like a wounded river. She runs against our skin, tickling our
senses and for a moment we forget the hot summer day.

She's the purest form of taste, her subtle flavours bounce through my buds. Her voice, a lurking lullaby.
She nourishes in perfection after a wrestle with clueless dust and pollen making the greens below shake their limbs at her bloom. Her magical touch fills the air as haze. Her spirit thrives with nature. She sweeps the hideouts of little creatures bringing branches of her hypnotic melancholic romance. She stirs too much it soaks.

    Her petrichor roams the air,
    rejuvenating the season's sensory
    displays. Though short-lived.
    Her echoes linger in abundance
    than her quick depart.
She maintains a balance in being a
    blessing and a curse.

Just so you remember she's a
           goddess, she leaves her hues
         behind, sets the stunning sunsets
in serenity. She wanders the sea,
valleys hills and mountains as she
hush little babies white, in the spell of
sunshine. For every lava cry from the sky,
there's a peck of ice crystals that shields it.

Love your summer rain dear Tonye. I especially love that part, when rain evokes memories of childhood frivolity. "She evokes memories of childhood and a sneaky link to the past". When I see the first rains, I think of my childhood when with my siblings, we used to run into the pouring rain and getting scolded and even beaten by my parents. How we used to enjoy setting to sail paper boats into puddles with ladybirds and ants. "She sweeps the hide out of little creatures"... so true. I used to watch ants, small beetles and winged insects floating in the rain water . Now our mind is shut to such curious sights. Your beautiful poem has birthed a number of sweet memories in me. Congratulations Tonye on your win.

A rich, golden verse, multi-faceted, ravishing and magical upon my imagination. Congratulations for your win in Charlotte's contest. It's an honor to share the podium with you, dear poetess. Wow this is breathtaking dear tonye! A personification of rain! Perfect also for my contest and you did it so beautifully with exquisite alliterations and flow of personified imagery! I especially love the lines where you mentioned she unfurls her fingers and undress to emanate petrichor scent as well as the ending! So artistic and imaginative!” She's the purest form of taste, her subtle flavours bounc-Her voice a lurking lullaby.” It can be yes. Altho i don’t personally like rain. A fave

I was late for it Inky. So sad. Do you have a reason for not liking the rain? It's a mixed feeling for me.

This is an amazing poem Tonye, so happy you are posting again... It beautifully captures the essence of a summer evening transitioning into a rainstorm, evoking vivid imagery and sensory details. The personification of the weather elements adds depth and emotion to the narrative, creating a sense of intimacy with nature. The imagery of curtains closing on a wet summer evening, concluding with thunder and rain, sets a serene yet dynamic scene. The personification of the rain as an uninvited guest tapping on windows and rooftops with tiny fingers adds a playful and whimsical touch to the poem.
