Sufficient To Exist
There’s a yearning within me
to flee to my place of peace.
I want to sit in solitude
on the side of a hill and
drink in nature’s performance.
Sitting there I would taste
the sweet breath of the mountains.
I would hear the wind
caressing the pine trees and
roughening the grass:
I would watch the untamed beasts,
from ants to coyotes,
going diligently
about their business of living;
I would be still
and feel the sun enveloping me
in warmth and light; and
my eyes would be drawn
to the intense blueness of the sky.
My mind would then begin
to experience the relief that comes
when thought is abandoned
and it is sufficient to exist.
