Such a Gift Revised
Yearning,
Yearning moved within the human heart
And of its own volition, there arose an utterance
so new,
so raw,
so absolute,
It would not be held.
Rather, it rose up and off the tongue
In boundless Joy and Gratitude toward the Creator.
Before recorded word took form
The gift of speech transpired.
From devotion flowed the praise
Melody as wings
Wafted upward and outward across space.
Harmonic strains,
Notes of adoration
Resonated full and deep
Suspended toward the heavens.
Such a gift is song!
Sun and moon
Rose and set.
Speech gave place to art inscribed upon the stone.
Symbolic structures and shapes evolved
Through the span of seasons.
From the reed to pen
The written word perfected.
Now.
Now, from the ink comes composition,
Designed expression,
Movement from primal to powerful,
Prose gives voice to passion,
A need too compelling to be denied.
Of its own, the quill does move.
From heart to verse
Poetry in whispery words that
Linger along the margins
Enticing, inviting, engaging
Merging minds and souls in
Measured movement
Soaring to the summit
so new,
so raw,
so absolute,
It would not be held.
Rather, poetry rises up and out
In boundless Joy and Gratitude to its creator.
Oh, that I could write such a gift!
