Studying Grandma

Her skin was baby soft.
Almost transparent.
Blue veins smiled.
Gossamer layers of freckles.

Her face watched me studying her hands.
I felt like I had been caught smoking.
You have beautiful hands, I said.
And she did have,

Hands that reflected
Integrity and truth,
Helpfulness and happiness,
Baby soft old woman hands.

Hands like the face, tell many stories.

I look at my hands now and smile, remembering my grandmother who passed when I was twelve, fifty-five years ago.
