Stray

Mangled and muddy
a limp could be seen
spat on and bullied
when others were mean

Head hangs to the ground
scrounging a meal
cast out of her comfort
from a love thought as real

Tiptoeing the banks
of a slow moving stream
basking in sunshine
seen in yesterday's dream

Spied a reflection
for who is this cat
one who is ugly
mangy and fat

Eyes that are lost
no purpose nor soul
sadly surrendered
hardened he strolls

Purrs echo the night as
empty meadows he roams
searching for daisies
and a place to call home

Heartbreaking!!!! I have rescued and gave home to many in my lifetime and found homes for many more. I will never understand how humans can be so cruel and indifferent to this beautiful creatures. Great Personification, Tim. Personifications are my niche in poetry.

You touched my heart and made me tear up. I'm a big one for helping out strays... All my critters were rescued off the streets... Lost 2 to old age this year... With another one almost gone too... She's the light of my life... With Dragon of course...

oh Tim, you have created a sad one that also reflects the loneliness of the stray. I REALLY like this one. SEVEN
