Storytime

The bed is still in disarray. A faint erotic scent exudes From the crumpled pillow. Was it only yesterday This page unfolded? Empty now this gold and decorated room Except for paper roses. A bobolink On a spiral spring, gay. The mirror stares back at me Unrecognizing the pale cold shadow Who haunts it seeking An old reflection. The blush is gone; no joke This walking in and out of chapters. Tell me another story, friend, Or give this one a happy ending.

I love your poem, Elizabeth. I think I know how you feel...youth disappeared, children gone, life rearranged. The book of life. You said it well.

So good of you to comment, Ann. Yes, about the children, I never realized they would be gone. Silly, no? But now I wake to a silent house. They're good people; they come to lunch sometimes. Eluizabeth

Many superb lines like "this walking in and out of chapters." (So much of our lives are chapters indeed). In fact, the book metaphor is consistently strong throughout your poem. Congratulations on such a thought provoking write. Brian

I was fascinated reading this Elizabeth. I want to know more. There is an air of loss and sadness that pervades your words. A feeling as if you are just going through the motions. It's almost as if you are asking and demanding to know from life as to how much more it can throw at you. Whether I'm on the right tracks or not I really enjoyed reading your poem. Congratulations on your win in Mystic Rose Rose's contest. Cheers - Gary
