Storm Stories

Two mountain ranges across the valley
catch the suns first light.
But as the day proceeds along
I watch an approaching storms might.
First the clouds rise above
the farthest range I see.
Then as the clouds draw across the sky
the mountains change dramatically.
A blue grey shadow covers them
as the clouds block out the sun.
Rising higher, building stronger
I look forward to what is to come.
A storm burst in the next valley,
I can see the curtain of rain.
I watch intently as it changes course
and as it ultimately wanes.
The clouds are higher yet and darker
they are slowly closing in.
The winds precede the storm to come
and tell me it will soon begin.
I sit on my porch in readiness
to see nature bring the desert life.
And for the briefest moments
end this harsh lands strife.
