Stonehenge

Ancient monument on the English Salisbury plain Called Stonehenge by name. Large tall megalithic blocks On a plain that has no rocks. Myths and legends surround the stones Dozen of theories, yet still unknown. An observatory, calendar or clock No one knows the mystery of these big rocks Tracking the stars or eclipses in the sky Modern man still wonders why. Built in many stages tell it was done Proof of builders remains none. Similar patterns, mechanism the same Many stone monuments have a name. Theories over time have come and gone New ones show how it was done. A man made structure that has me amazed Now future generations can gaze. One fact remains and the the question is why Build these structures, but where does the truth lie.

This is one of the best I've read on this great legend. It pays to pick around in some of the older poems. Luv, Lizzie

Yes, I wonder if we'll ever know, Phyllis. I wrote a silly limerick on Stonehenge for this contest, but I'd love to know what it was erected for.

Interesting poem. I have been to Stonehenge, and it is an amazing sight--although the great stones are not quite as massive as I thought. We may not know too much about them but they are a calender type clock, that much we do know. Good subject for a poem!

Fine entry into Carolyn's Mystery contest Phyllis. On the Western Isles of Scotland, there are "The Callanish Stones" which were constructed 50 years before "Stone Henge" good luck in the contest :)

oh, for the mystery contest? I think Carolyn will love this, Phyllis. it is exactly the kind of thing I think she is looking for in her contest. (it didn't close yet, did it?) I don't know if my message will go thru. I am getting systems error when I try to comment. Let me see right now!
