Still Trying

As we walked on the riverbank, I told you I loved the beginning, The beginning of relationships, Now I know why. Nothing compares, To the saccharine words, To the nervous laughs, To the looks exchanged. Yet what looms over me, Is the monster I’ve created, Of my unrequited loves, From all the pain I’ve felt. City lights and hot summer nights, The way I loved obsessively, The only way I know how, The past is still the present. These moments with you, Are marred and trampled upon, By a mind, Which simply cannot let go.
