Step On My Toes

The night was so cool, the lighting so soft I held out my hand, and giggling, you coughed Hesitant and shy to hold my hand And dance to the rhythm of a nice little band I held out my hand, knowing it'd be right To dance with you all through the night But, you my darling, would only suppose And ask, "What if I step on your toes?" I swayed you my darling, you were so light And, of a loving couple, we made a nice sight But, you would still continue to suppose And say, "I hope I do not step on your toes." We danced, thereafter, to Lady in Red As upon my shoulder, you laid your head And then as one, whose confidence grows You realised you weren't stamping my toes Then it seemed, with each passing song That we'd been dancing all night long As naturally as only nature knows For you, my darling, did not step on my toes.
