Notes About The Poem

STEAMED CRABS

Scents of sea, historical townships and seafood
Thrilled like vacations not just a dinner destination.
Each trip to Chesapeake Bay staid that fine mood.
As we rode, my family's blend got on its finest silly
Making jokes, singing, bro and I loved Dad’s riddles.
Eyes all turned somber passing the barn site where
Destiny once heard JW Booth say, ‘useless, useless ...’

Crackers, hammers, picks, butter sat on brown paper with
Randomly scattered crabs piled high excited my family.
Although not novices, Dad would inspect our dissects,
Brag to Moma about how strong his shellfish genes
Swam, huh?

I really hate this food. But lucky for you, you made a very nice story out of going to get those things , Big congrats in my contest, Caycay

It is exactly our story, went many times when we lived outside of DC; Pooh was little so with a sitter which was perfect because in a few years, we'd learn she couldn't stand shellfish. We all looked at each other, and in unison asked, "where did she come from?" Your contest was my opportunity to journal that wonderful, repeated outing in my family's life, so I really enjoyed putting it together. Thanks for the contest... CayCay

Chesapeake Bay is a destination I'd like to do. Im glad you had a great family time. I wonder if I'd be strong enough to crack crabs anymore. The effort is worth it.

Take me with you and I'll happily crack for us both. After all, it is a meal that requires time, dedication, lots of delicious-love these exclamations. Wait, by the time you ate yours, would I just about be finished opening/cracking mine? Tell you what, first we'll see if you just need help getting started. Now, I'm hungry for crabs now, you? Thanks for reading. CayCay

Thanks for inviting us to your family dinner. I feel like I was there! That's funny, I remember as a kid going near the beach, I could smell the sea so strongly, and now I can't.

Fun to read and engaging! The ending made me smile and remember how warm family dinner jokes by dad are! Great write!

Crabs and lobsters are so very tasty. But eating them using a hammer or pincers is an art and a task. Enjoyed your beach side dinner. All the best

Wonderful acrostic. In Malta, crabs are too small and not easy to catch. Never ate one though I love sea food.

CayCay, your poem sounds delicious. Crabmeat is best fresh and steamed. Well penned, best for the contest.
