Notes About The Poem

Steal a Rainbow

It's impossible to steal a rainbow, as much as it is impossible to steal true love.

If I could steal a rainbow
Would you appreciate me more?
I know you love all colours,
harmonized in a kaleidoscope of dyes,
pastel mixtures of inexplicable art.

But to steal a rainbow,
I'd have to trudge the earth,
sail over shimmering seas
or slog down verdant vales.
And if I do arrive somewhere
where a rainbow might begin,
I'd find it’s just an illusion,
a myth like the crock of gold
that elves leave at its foot
to enrich whoever really finds it.
But who has ever found a crock of gold?

So if you really want from me
to get you a big whopping rainbow,
I'll know that you loved me not,
that your kisses meant nothing,
that your caresses were for someone else.
And I, alas, am but a shadow,
an unattainable, fictitious illusion
who'll live to my despair?

I love your imagination, so vivid in this write, how does one steal a rainbow, there is no tangible evidence to prove its existence, it is merely a refraction of light, so how would you steal it, and how and why would someone who you thought loved you, ask for something so unattainable, so illusional on that persons part, might as well try and catch a sun's ray. Great poem Victor. HUGS, BLESSINGS, JENNIFER.

I wonder how many have searched for the pot of gold, also, how many have tried to gain what someone else wanted but lost their soul. Thanks for sharing this one and dropping by my page. Sara

I love the engaging dialogue and the poem's fantastic images, such as, the idea of stealing a rainbow, in itself. Nice work, my friend. :)

If you must steal a rainbow to make her happy then it isn't true love. True love is contended in sharing the colors with you, from below, :)

Great concept and lesson Victor. Stealing a rainbow is an original thought and love is worth more than all the rainbows ever produced. A pleasure to read you today.

as you said a rainbow is not an easy task to fine the end, the illusion moves the closer you move. Like the verse.

Very nice! I know you love all colours, harmonized in a kaleidoscope of dyes, pastel mixtures of inexplicable art...but what you want and need is true love!

Hi Victor, a wonderful poem on the true meaning of love, it's beyond getting the rainbow or the moon and stars, delighted to see you after a while:)

You have plucked a rainbow from the skies to be gifted to your love. But even without it, she will continue to love you ever and ever. Happy to see you after a few days' gap, dear Victor.

WoW! Victor, What a well-written write from start to finish. It's unattainable to catch a rainbow. And one’s true love would never ask their lover to do so. Because their love is good enough. I enjoyed the read, my friend. Have a good weekend:-) Alexis

A rainbow is unobtainable, but true love lasts forever. If you find true love, you will never look for the end of a rainbow. It is a fruitless endeavour. I hope you are keeping well, Victor. I loved this verse. Shirley

With all good intentions sadly it’s true, stealing a rainbow would be impossible to do. Your true love was worth more than all the gold in that fictitious crock pot. A truly magnificent write Victor… Belle
