Springing a Scene
I stroll the country lanes as spring appears:
the finches dash from tropic climes in force,
urgent in looping surge, their journey clears
our grey and heavy streets in golden course.
The blackened hedge with knotted buds is dressed
like jade or coal that's strung on twisted chains.
Yet red is peaking brightly on the crest
of trees whose limbs are high above the lanes.
As spring now walks in strides across the field,
we see the daffodils with golden heads.
Their slender stems now brightly sway and yield
to warming breath exhaled from blooming beds
exhaling green as light from darkness steers
I stroll the country lanes as spring appears
