the forest I love is letting go
of winter
and the lake has flooded
and trees seem to be
growing out of water
oh, I find it hauntingly lovely
everything is stark and still
in hues of brown and faded green
at first glance decaying
but the dripping branches are waking
in a beautiful melancholy and hushed
landscape
and ducks float here and there
where they should not be floating
and nature is in transition
oh, soon ... so soon
as the drum of time rolls and rolls
the forest will be lush
and green and full of new life
again
