Jueju-Qijue
Jueju poems are always quatrains; or, more specifically, a matched pair of couplets (AABB), with each line consisting of five or seven syllables. The five-syllable form is called wujue; and the seven-syllable form qijue.
Warm winds sweep the land of snow
where patches of green grass show.
And the ice Queen ends her reign,
as Her cold spells ebb and wane.
Buds bloom on both bush and tree
ice breaks up, and creeks flow free.
With each dawn, the sun shines strong,
night shrinks, and the day grows long.
Houseflies start buzzing the scene,
it's time to put up some screen.
But that's a small price to pay
to get the kids out to play.
White clouds on a field of blue
frame the tulips popping through.
And eagles high in the sky
are all sure signs spring draws nigh.
