Spring Beckons
I gaze at my winter worn garden
And long for the coming of spring.
I can see myself there
Breathing gulps of fresh air
As handfuls of plant food I fling.
The lilac's big buds will be bursting,
Their fragrance perfuming the air.
Sunshine will be warming
And small insects swarming,
Saluting a spring day so fair.
We still have February to deal with
Before March throws open the door
To bright days of pleasure
A springtime to treasure
And nesting birds singing once more.
I sit by the fireside and plan for
The warm days of the coming spring.
Forget winter's vexations
In great expectations
Of joys the next season will bring.
