Sparky Oh Sparky Rip

Sparky Oh, Sparky! My daughter me called on Thanksgiving Day, As Sparky, their Cocker Spaniel was passing away.  Sparky was riddled with cancer, no drugs could save him. This had to be one of the saddest days of our lives! My daughter drove on what would be Sparky's last ride. My grandson in the front seat, unaware that soon his dog would not be alive. I sat in the back, Sparky's head on my lap. He was gasping for breath, and tears ran like waterfalls down my cheeks, I petted and comforted him,but his breathing grew more labored. His brown eyes looking to the skies. Oh, God! Please help me in penning this sad tale,  Of the bond between animals and humans. This being such a painful travail. The day was uttterly dark and gloomy. We got to the hospital and then..... On a gurnee they rushed the family fur angel inside. I knew it would be only minutes before that jumping pup, would be on the other side. The poisons ended his life in a second.. We all petted him and kissed him,and bid him, adieu. Sparky, oh sweetest Sparky! How very much we still love and forever, willl cherish you. Neither our love nor tears could possibly have saved you. Panagiota Romios 3/27/2019

I feel the pain in your verse Panagiota, we too had to have our spaniel put down, but looking back it was the kindest thing to do. And what you did was indeed an act of kindness too. Tom

Sorry for your loss, Tom. Eddie was in the room too. OMG. Of course it was kind, he could barely breathe! I can't bear these events. Pet loss hits me hard. PRXx

Sparky's running free and happy on the other side. I lost a dog to cancer a few years ago. She had a lump on her rear foot, it grew bigger than her foot, so we took the vet's advice and had it removed; it grew back in less than a month and we were told that the cancer had eaten its way to her bones. We have to preserve the memories because they so richly, bless our lives.

ML..sorry about your dog. Yes the memories remain. Sparky had tumors all over his body. One removed, another grew back in its place. We hoped for the best. I lost a gorgeous Norwegian Forest Cat, years ago to cancer. Pets are awesome beings. Panagiota

It is so sad, but Sparky is barking his approval in heaven, loving this tribute!

Thanks, Caren! This was far more traumatic than walking a cat to a steel table. I had to ride with Sparky for a half an hour. I have fourteen cats put down. I know about Rainbow Bridge. I loathe the cards the vets send. They are emotionless cards that say nothing! I hoped this to be more than sad. I think I failed. Panagiota
