Soul Talk
The Lord created us humans to be a three-fold being.
We mortals are made to consist of body, soul, and spirit.
The body is essentially a conduit through which soul and spirit
operate. Our finest hour is when we invite Christ in to operate
inside of us through the person of The Holy Spirit. Consider this:
BRAD, AKA SOUL, arrived early and was having coffee
in the employee coffee shop. He looked depressed.
BILL, AKA SPIRIT, was rushing, already late for work, but
he glanced over and saw BRAD sitting alone. He felt the
gloominess issuing from BRAD's demeaner, and felt he had to speak to
him. 'Time' took a back seat to 'concern for his friend'. So
he went over and sat with BRAD and started a conversation.
"Good morning, SOUL", said SPIRIT.
It's obvious that you
are not your normal.
I know that the coffee is tasting good,
but you? Not so much. Let's talk.
What's wrong? Tell me,
Why are you cast down?"*
"Thanks for noticing, said SOUL. Thanks
for asking. So often, like so many others,
you seem too busy to see, much less show concern.
Anyway, I'm sorry you found me in this state of despair."
"I have been contending with deceitful and wicked people.
I'm sorry to say it, but I sometime feel that even God has rejected me.
I feel oppressed by my enemies; and I don't want my friends to be burdened
with my problems." BILL was clearly focused on BRAD and 'the rush'
gave way to reaching out to his friend. But it did not take long to
share with BRAD life-giving words that lifted him. BILL shared five
verses with BRAD from Psalms 103:
1Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
BRAD gave special attention to such words as:
Benefits, forgiveness, healing, redemption,
compassion, satisfaction, and renewal. In
so doing, he was greatly helped by BILL.
In conclusion, BILL said, "Keep hope alive,
and don't give up on praises to God".
