Sonnet 54 'The Both, My Parents, Mom Too, Are Dead Now'

The both, my Parents, mom, too, are dead now, And what a thing that is to have to know. I really can’t get up and have a cow, But smiles, sometimes, seem they are all for show. And now, to other twists of laughing fate! My mother died, but two weeks from my wife. My father died, nine days before my birthday. I seem to have a gift for calling strife! My sister lost her mom a week before Her birthday, and she says dad said goodbye Around that time – hard Luck nailed shut the door In August and September, thus, we’ll cry! O, what a comedy of hurts is this! No wrinkled, or rough-whiskered cheek to kiss!

the "twists of laughing fate"... Both my parents are now gone, too. It is another phase of life to be without them. I always enjoy your work. Keep writing my talented friend.

Ah! I've just looked up the expression! I think it must be an americanism as I'd never heard the idiom before but it all now fits into place!

This was touching to read,Andrew, especially the last two very poignant lines. I am intrigued about the third line though!?

Thank you. They were sweet people. And yes, to 'have a cow' is to get all upset about something.
