Songs from Grassy Blocks

Written: May 04, 2025, for contest Sponsored by: Constance La France Quote: "Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love." By Rumi ************************** Spring geckos dance amid the early dew, Olive snuggles with dulcet dreams as mint. A duckling settles softly in a shaded view, Okenite feathers smoke in a dizzying hint. Emerald drips flow over the damp meadow, While May rain pours down, akin to arrows. Windswept snags utter a rose-scented breeze, A smooth swoosh paint with oakmoss squeeze. Purple iridescence widens in spinel phlox, Ancient songs reverberate in the grassy blocks. With the light, a shooting star makes its way, Dashing over a midnight black onyx display. In the embrace of mauve marigold air, Dandelion tufts sparkle as opals laid bare. Whispers in the sky, drifting glare.

SP, I do like how you take a flattering and happy view of nature and existence in a poem like this. It's a pleasure to read and makes me smile!! I can't seem to write like this and that makes it all the more fun to read. Also loved the love's theme inclusion. Haven't listened to that in a while. Take care, sir!

How creative dr sotto, your use of colors and adjectives to enhance and paint an imagery that is so very artistic and dreamy is so very impressive; i love so many lines here such as "Ancient songs reverberate in the grassy blocks. With the light, a shooting star makes its way, Dashing over a midnight black onyx display. " could see through your words a shooting star, ive seen many shootint stars and i can never ever get enough of those , on starry nights when all is but silent, pleasure reading you today! Sending you light always. Best wishes for the contest

That is a great quote from Rumi to accompany your poem.. What makes this piece so striking is its ability to transform a spring scene into something simultaneously grounded and celestial. The final image "Whispers in the sky, drifting glare" leaves us with a sense of wonder, as if the poem itself evaporates into the ether.

We call them lizards. I used a pair in a short story which a long time ago was read on the BBC. You have a fabulous way of using word. Especially loved Purple iridescence widens in spinel phlox. Best for a win.

The land and the sky abounds in beauty and loveliness in the month of May. You have described the beautiful scenes taking around us from dawn to dusk. There are two geckos living on a shrub in my garden. They seem to have made it their permanent home. Once when I water the plants, they jump into another plant, but would be back to their usual haunt in no time. Lovely poem, dear friend. All the Best.
