Somewhere, Somehow

Somewhere in Madagascar a baobab yields its fruit Somewhere in Australia a thylacine chases a bandicoot Somewhere in Timbuktu a man is speaking in Urdu Somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains an old woman stirs burgoo As some skinny guy tiptoes on skyscrapers Vagrants and vagabonds burn yesterday's newspapers As the world turns, my heart yearns and my stomach churns and as time grinds my mind discerns and my soul is spurned A child plays somewhere with wild animals and an orphan blesses the food with refined cannibals A dog lays somewhere on someone's front porch and an orchard withers somewhere, its ground is scorched

I like that you reference the baobab and Blue Ridge. As a huge entropy fan I like being reminded that death and decay makes room for life and growth. One must beget the other. Nice job, Doyal.

Thanks for welcoming me...I like to write poetry to sublimate the various things I feel into a nifty idea or just a nice image. It helps me maintain my focus on what's important and forget about what isn't.

Trey H., Welcome to Poetry soup, I hope you enjoy the community. Here, you will find friendly poets who enjoy supporting one another. I myself, enjoy reading and commenting those who want to be read. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. Tell me a little about your poetic skills if you like. It will be my pleasure to follow and read every poem you post from here on :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@

Thank you for the welcome...I have always enjoyed reading and writing all types of material. I especially like the cadence of a well written poem and consider the written word a much more powerful tool for communicating than the spoken word. For me, poetry is just a natural reaction to a life observed through my eyes.
