Something Left Behind

There must be something left behind,
of the child that we used to be.
If we search within we may find,
that we still hold on to the key.

Christmas, a time of joy and love,
with it's glow of heavenly light.
A brilliant star, from high above,
shining through the darkest night.

As we grow older we drift away,
from childhood visions and dreams.
Sadly, the innocence doesn't stay,
it can't live among adult themes.

Why can't we search our mind,
for a fond memory pushed aside?
Perhaps there is one, easy to find,
and will no longer be denied.

One could lead to many more,
until their power would revive.
All of the magic we look for,
as our Christmas spirit comes alive.

Christmas has become so commercialized, like a capitalist orgy. My child within easily remembers but everything has changed. All of the players are gone. The tradition died with them. Sadly for me, it's just another day. I do love your poem and am sure many will find their Christmas spirit within it.

Sadly those magical memories of our childhood fade with advancing years. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas Sandy and hopefully rekindle some of those magical memories. Tom
