Some Things To Consider
I have a strong feeling us little guys don’t matter,
That the laws are written to favor the rich
What we middle class folks say is so much clatter
Hey, we’re the ones who’ve fallen into the ditch!
Where the Good Samaritans to bind our wounds?
Where the lawmakers who will take up our cause?
Seems like our interests are the first to be pruned
Or plastered over with ill-fitting pieces of gauze.
Not a single Congressperson needs an abortion
It’s the poor woman who can’t afford another child
As to taxes, who pays the greatest proportion?
And who is to sit down, take it, act meek and mild?
I’m wondering if we’re facing a middle-class uprising
To restore the rights which from us they are taking,
In fact, I would not see it at all unusual or surprising
The ruling class in our society is due for a shaking.
Disparities between the “haves” and the “have-nots”
Grow wider every day, the rich can afford inflation
The poor and underprivileged lose what they’ve got
No wonder we’re seeing civil riots and conflagration.
Our lawmakers seem beholden to lobbying forces
As individual freedoms to choose are adjudicated away,
While the bottom line in my opinion, of course, is
More the government and less its citizenry have a say.
