Solemn Sunrise

I awaken to a new day once more
The loneliness still tears my world apart
Summer days spent walking along the shore
There is a constant pain inside my heart

A solemn sunrise, just another day
Memories take me to another time
The anguish I feel never goes away
Each day is another mountain I climb

My arms reach out in the still of the night
When I wake I’ll find them empty again
I long for those days when it all was right
I feel my tears as I remember when

Emptiness as I face each tomorrow
A solemn sunrise brings pain and sorrow.

Oh, how very sad! Your anguish is felt in your poem, Vince, and it is very well written. How hard it is indeed to live each day with such sadness. But you know, we can't live in the past. A new sunrise can also be a new beginning. Take life and time in both hands and make it better, it depends on you, not another is what I feel like saying after reading your poem. Thanks for sharing and thank you for your kind comments on my poem. Best wishes, Caroline.

So sad a sonnet. There is hope. Each tomorrow brings a new chance. Love can appear when one least expects it. Keep the creative pen flowing. Sara

My heart aches as I read this piece and have found myself, on many occasion, feeling just this way. A beautiful and moving sonnet from a gifted poet. I love the tenderness and gentle flow of each line even through the sadness. Smiles from Lolita

Genuinely moving, sad sonnet, Vince. You have impeccable rhyme and meter and a message to which many of us can relate. It can be very difficult to "face each tomorrow" when you wake with an aching heart. Beautiful work! Love, Carolyn

Wow...the longing, and the wistful heart. I sense that many will feel their own memories, and pain in this melancholy poem. Wishing for other days, ....very well done! If this isn't for Laura's contest, it should be! Great job...Carrie

Dear Vince, This is great, even though it's sad. "Each day is a mountain" and you will overcome one day. Peace and love, audrey
