written for the contest sponsored by "constance la france" i chose the word " soft"

“Just because you are soft doesn't mean you are not a force. Honey and wildfire are both the colour gold.” ~Victoria Erickson Tonight the moon sanctioned her golden halo to unfurl butterfly wings rinsed with honey and champagne ribbons, as feathers of lunar crust rise, to embellish the sky with silver sequins, drizzling second chances upon fickle hearted dragonflies, gifted as weapons of deception to the sweltering breeze, that wrapped my weakened knees. I’ve always known trusting is a losing game with no winners, but why do I always feel like an intruder sinking deep into the depths of spiteful seas~ where planktons and stinging marine nettles prick my untouched skin? Yet I am still searching for a singing star that wouldn’t need written renderings of how my black tinted glass heart was left to drown. Who would have thought, there’d be more to the onyx glittered ripples that stream, in teal blue waves? If only they’d hear every unspoken tale of shipwrecked ruins resting amongst graphite motions of frozen intuitions, forgotten through forsaken lagoons amidst fleeting monsoons, left as memoirs along soft coral mists swiftly passing through patch reefs in abandoned atolls. So let me take my splintered spheres to a realm of no return, forgiving sinful anthems that lured me to believe that friends were more than enemies in sweet disguise. I am soft, not fragile, neither am I a shrunken blossom. I am a tiger lily, fragrant yet fierce, ready to face whatever~ hypocritical fangs of fate may serve in merlot wine chalices.

IE, soft is also sexier! I'm not fond of hardness in relationships. Of course, it does sometimes create brief difficulties if with an insensitive person. However, like you say, soft can be strong and deal with anything!!!

I love how you worked the idea of the quote into your poem. I remember seeing that quote as well when I searched for good quotes on soft. Well, at least something similar to it. Beautiful as always, Ink

"I’ve always known trusting is a losing game with no winners." Being soft is what makes anyone strong. It's a good thing to trust someone until it's not. I'd rather not face the ache that comes with it. It's like putting your fate in the hands of someone, who doesn't trust themselves. I loved this line too, "ready to face whatever hypocritical fangs of fate may serve in merlot wine chalices." Accepting to face anything is the step needed for growth.

We are ready to dance in whatever deceit that comes with it. They have fangs, you have claws. You'll sip wine until someone needs to be punched.

dearest Ink--your imagery intertwined with emotional turmoil made this such a compelling read.I felt a host of emotions as I read your poem.Your 'soft' take on the contest is outstanding for sure!I loved so many lines and words, hard for me to pick just one. These resonated with me, though:I am soft, not fragile, neither am I a shrunken blossom.. When I met my husband I remember telling him, "I look soft on the outside, but I'm tough as nails on the inside. A delightful read, hugs for today,Sara

Each line you write is pregnant with meaning. You are emptying your heart clogged with betrayals and deceptions from those you took to be friends. "So let me take my splintered spheres to a realm of no return, forgiving sinful anthems that lured me to believe that friends were more than enemies in sweet disguise." Despite all such betrayals and deceptions, life is to be lived with resilience and grace. Your concluding stanza shows the srength in you. "I am a tiger lily, fragrant yet fierce, ready to face whatever~ hypocritical fangs of fate may serve in merlot wine chalices." Powerful poetry, dear Empress

Dear Ink, Your poem shows great skill. Your exploration of the theme, weaving celestial imagery with emotional turmoil, captivates me. You beautifully capture human emotions, revealing vulnerability and strength. Butterfly wings in honey, champagne ribbons, second chances like sequins, a glimmer of hope amidst uncertainty. Trust, once broken, is impossible to repair. May you find solace in the night, may the seas of the condemned not disturb your peace. Good luck with the contest, poet friend.

trust is a bond once broken and can never be repaired...as you search the night find peace and not turbulent seas from those Dante relegated to the fiery pits...good luck, dear poet

I think this is the first 'soft' word poem I have seen for this contest.. I love your quote and take on the theme.. Your poem captures a beautiful celestial imagery and emotional turmoil.. It shows the complexities of human emotions, painting a vivid picture of vulnerability and resilience. The imagery of butterfly wings rinsed with honey and champagne ribbons, juxtaposed with the notion of second chances drizzling like silver sequins, evokes a sense of hope amidst uncertainty.. Through the symbolism of the tiger lily, it asserts strength and determination in the face of adversity, refusing to be defined by fragility or past betrayals. This poem resonates with its raw emotion and evocative imagery, inviting readers to reflect on their own journeys of resilience and self-empowerment.. BOL in contest.
