"Lot and his family were sent to the little town of Zoar and God did not destroy that town because of Lot. Then The Lord rained down on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from The Lord out of Heaven. And He overthrew those cities and all the plain and all the inhabitants of the cities and that which grew upon the ground."

                                                                              Genesis 19:24-25

It is said the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, Are famous for their wicked ways; That sin was so rife among these two, That Satan himself ruled the day. It's said these cities were so rotten and vile, That life there was Hell on Earth; And if a child was born in either place, His fate was sealed before birth. Abuse of all kinds ran rampant there, And God said,"Their sin is too great. The stench of their sin has reached Heaven's Gate, And so they have sealed their fate." He sent His angels to visit Lot, And get him and his family out. He visited Abram and Sarah Himself, And told them what He was about. Abraham begged and pleaded with Him, "Please don't kill the good with the bad." And God in His mercy agreed not to do it, But in the end no good could be had. Fire and brimstone rained down on them, And burned all into a white ash. Where two great cities once had stood, Was now only salt, sand and ash. We could learn a great deal from what happened there, When sin and debauchery held sway. They didn't believe so they didn't care, And we're not far behind them today. In the past the Bible was read in our homes. We loved God and were proud of it too. Now even our laws have turned against Him. It seems Christ is our only taboo. They cannot believe what they cannot see, Is what they all say of The Lord. The people of Sodom said that too, And they were cut down by His Sword. If we don't change our ways we'll suffer the same, For God is no different today. The party is over and time's running out, He grows weary of the games people play.

Bravo! Takes guts to write this in today's climate of total relativity, with Money and/or Selfish Pleasure as the highest societal values... Individuals such as 'Oprah,' 'Beyonce,' 'Madonna,' and Michelle Obama as our role models. Ugh!... Thanks, Judy! ~ Gershon

The story of Sodom and Gomorrah has always fascinated me - God's wrath is clearly depicted in this Old Testament part of the Bible and a further lesson is when Lot's wife looks back after she has been warned not to and is turned into a pillar of salt. I do admit I am God fearing my friend. I talk to God a great deal, and he listens, the least I can do is repay his love back in kind. Great poem Judy. Hugs Jennifer.

Thanks bunches Jennifer. The Bible tells us if we don't confess Jesus before men He will not confess us before His Father in Heaven. God Bless, JB

As I am not a member of an Old World religion, I only see a very vicious god who, like Donald Trump, constantly makes mistakes and blames it on others. Would you teach or destroy your own children for not toeing the line? I think any Court of Law would sentence your god to Life in Prison! Aloha! Rico

Throwing babies into a fire as a sacrifice to the fire god is not a little mistake, it's evil. Every kind of evil was practiced in Sodom and Gomorrah. That's why God destroyed them. If you read the bible and tried to get to know Him you would be greatly enlightened. God Bless,\ JB

There are at least a few of us on Soup who feel the pandemic may be a precursor to Judgment Day. And we've angered Mother Nature too with our wasteful ways and pollution. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is well depicted in your poem, Judy. Indeed, we may be on the same path now. A very interesting topic and penned skillfully. I can appreciate the thoughts you share. Hugs, Carolyn

With each day that passes by we approach more and more Sodom and Gomorrah and, as you so rightly say, God remains the same and His reaction would be the same. The good people should do more in word and deeds to avert the upcoming catastrophe, my beloved sister. Excellent inspiring writing which, alas, not many would pay attention till is too late, dearest, Judy!
