Sodom

She rose like an eagle from her rock Into cerulean palace perched on high And ruled in rainbow days her winged stock Ecstatic in pleasures all good to try. For to what purpose else her commerce then Her merchanted corridors of pearl sand That arched wisdom that was the praise of men And proud polity of an esteemed land? Wealth swayed her lifestyle from rigor to ease Made leisure ultimate in the bright dream Moral walls crumble when vigilance cease The eagle does not see how the glint's gleam Marked upon the hunter's eye, the fresh Frenzy of feathers ... vanity in flesh.

Honestly I don't know much about the subject matter, charge it to my ignorance, awk! But judging solely on the structure of this poem and how this is written, I can only say Wow! I love the style, the consistent alternating rhyming pattern. Much labor was obviously spent on the meticulous metering (10 syllables, more or less, on each line) that gives this piece a marked cadence which is perfect when read aloud. I'm impressed. You obviously know your poetry. Regards, Fred

You seem to have no hesitation in tackling weighty subjects. Bravo. If we could only learn by example. I like too that you write in formal verse and know your rhyme and rhythm I will be reading more of your verses, many more. Thank you for your comments. love, Joyce

Interesting write. The line "Wealth swayed" says what happens in the down fall of so many countries. Increase in goods and leisure seems to lead to wrong doing and forgetting God. Keep the magical pen flowing. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my work. Sara
