So I Asked the Lad
so i asked the lad
he was at work with his mother
she manages a laundromat
where one may only need machines
but there is a service of clean and fold
for us single elderly gentlemen
what is your favorite candy bar
snickers he replied
and what flower is your favorite
hmmm.... i like roses
and when is your birthday
another answer fulfilled
now said i of those questions
what are your mother's answers
to such questions
he paused, soon lost in the brain
before i let his wandering within go on
i told him, well young man
let me impart something of value here
if you ever meet the woman
you dream of a life with forever
never fail to know these
it is how a woman knows
you truly love her
and always remember in life
it is the little things
that adds up to the greatest
leaving Lufkin, Texas i like to think
i made a small difference in the life
of a young man watching his mother
fold and prepare my clothes
but more so the lesson mom heard
her smile as i left
