Smoke Hinders the Future
stagnant and muffled voices are stirring
like a music box wound up not stop
refuge sought from a whirling daunted world
from which smoke of disgrace hovers over
tongues lashing out at one another
like school children do in the playground
however these are our leaders at work
pointing fingers and name calling.
we learn young to be honest and loyal
then learn where it ends with that big white house
in which trust is swept under the carpet
and the welcoming mat of dishonesty
one can see puppets in this contagious mockery
like the theater of Punch and Judy domestic quarrels
those who step in too close will be tossed out
and those that are left leave their velvet seats
watch a sitcom instead of the news
entirely the same stage as CNN
our suspenders are stretch to the max
our gut is full, living in an unorthodox playground
look upon the statues of past leaders of fame
who’s to say there was not flame throwing then
today we hear partiality that ignites a fierce blaze
we the firefighters get scorched while fighting
the smoke thickens engulfing the patriots
who strive to keep out country stable
makes us cough on this turf of bungling rhetoric
wondering and questioning the future of prosperity
