Smashing Pumpkins
How many days to raise this pumpkin
From the seed, in which I sowed
I gave it water, and I fed it
As everyday I'd watch it grow
There were nights, I was frighten
That I'd lose it to the frost
In the past, it'd come early
And found it hard to bare the loss
I'm not quiet sure, how people feel
About the orange ball they see
All I know what's in my heart
and what the pumpkin means to me
Some buy them, and they cook them
Making soup or cakes or pies
If I said, it wasn't yummy
We would all know that's a lie
Others make a Jack-o-lantern
Evil faces, lit by flames
Entertaining all who see them
In a contest or a game
But there are those
Who'd smash these pumpkins
In a cruel and twisted plea
All I know, what's in my heart
and what the pumpkin means to me
How many days to raise a pumpkin
At least eighty maybe more
Tending daily to its needs
But, it's quiet a loving chore
Then to have them smashed on purpose
For a purpose no one knows
Destroyed in just mere seconds
That took weeks and weeks to grow
It takes time to raise a pumpkin
And in an instant end its spree
All I know what's in my heart
and what the pumpkin means to me
