Small

"If I fell in love a thousand times, would it all make sense?" Sense - Tom Odell

Learn to say no, they said
Before you dwindle to dust
Till they drain all of your magic
In their selfish claws that constantly grab
The mouths that never pause
To listen to the cries of your heart

There is a small world I turn to
Where a small hope glistens
And in it, small me awaits

Break from your dungeons of dread
Give yourself some self-respect
Do not disappear in their needs
For they will grab you,
Devour you
Till the last crumb of you bleeds

Why do we belittle ourselves? Is it because we don't go with the flow, or because we don't appreciate who we really are! Self belief is the key that opens the gates to fulfillment of dreams and love. ~ Warm regards // paul

Great musings and very powerfully written, but I wouldn't say anyone is small who can make a big impact with their words. But as Piet Hein has said in his poem An Ode to Modesty ... humility (ironically) attracts more attention than pride. Give yourself some self-respect ... well stated, my friend!

Speaks to the heart...reminds and uplifts. There is only so much one could take. Loved this, Laura. Great to see you. Kim

I listened to the song. Nice tune and interesting words--the piano and voices in the background are very pleasant. Hadn't heard him before. So thanks for taking me there. Choices. Eventually, we grab a line that doesn't break and off we go. Goodness there are a lot of people with needs, so we have to wear some protection. In NY, people in the street don't look at each other and don't say hello. Strange world we live in--parts of it do not make sense, but we try to cope. No other choice.

I really like the fact that this brilliant poem can be read as a self motivation or it can be read as though you are encouraging, leading someone else into the dawn of their self empowerment Laura. The language is so clear, powerful, and beautiful, like you wise Poetess. "The mouths that never pause to listen to your heart's cries...Till the last crumb of you bleeds." Your words, and heart make me virile...J.A.B. A FAV!!

Thank you for your kind comments, Justin. Been doing quite a lot of editing for LOTDC. It seems the more I read through it, the more I am amazed by the power of its words. I think we empower each other in a way, through our poetry, so I want to thank you for your beautiful support and for inspiring me thus far. ~Laura
