They come alive within her dreams each night, as eyelids close, her parents take the stage, back to a time when everything's alright, both of them show no ravages of age. Domestic scenes, times past, her part she plays as conversations bandy to and fro, I lie still and hear everything she says, what they are speaking I shall never know. These dramas never come at her behest, only when her subconscious wields it's powers, a sudden cry, from it's hold she is wrest, awake she now sobs in the darkest hours. They say time heals all wounds, this is not so when through the years those left just can't let go.

You've written in my favorite form, Viv....and what an emotion write at that. It moved me...especially those last two lines. I've lost loved ones, and sometimes dreams do make them come to life again. I do talk in my sleep. Hubby says I teach...I also laugh right before I fall asleep...it sometimes wakes me up. Yes...strange. Lovely piece.

Thanks, Debbie, sorry I've not been so active, but as the days shorten there is much more to fit in. And my garden never sleeps :( . Viv x

wow, Viv, is this based on your own experience with your wife? I rarely hear people talking in their sleep. Joe hardly ever. Very interesting one!! I rarely dream of people in my life either, a lot of time I dream of strangers!!!

How bizarre, Andrea. Just make sure that you tie one foot to your bedpost, so that these strangers don't take you anywhere. Oh, and watch out for clowns..... Viv x

My good Lady lost her parents seven and ten years ago, and the struggle to keep her afloat is a long one. Some of her nights are worse than others, such are the ties that bind. Thanks for dropping by, Jean. Viv x

How true and poetically stated, my sun went out long ago, it's just starting to peer in again.

We frail humans, Paloma. We can land on the moon, split atoms, carry our lives in boxes in our pockets, but loss can feel like the Sun itself has gone out. Thanks for reading. Viv x

Sometimes it can be extremely difficult to let go. Very sad poem, Mr Viv.

Hard for many, indeed, Daniel. A counterpoint to how much we loved, I suppose. Regards, Viv

A poem to read and feel ... what stuff the unconscious may reveal ...

A thoughtful and quietly melancholic sonnet Viv. Time does heal all wounds you know. just sometimes it takes quite a lot of time - and even when the wounds have healed there'as still a scar or two.
